History Of Avalon Sub-Camp

The history of our sub-camp’s name Avalon is a legendary island somewhere in the British Isles, famous for its beautiful apples.
It is also referred to as the legendary location where Jesus visited the British Isles with Joseph of Anmathea and it was later the site of the first church in Britain. This location of the Isle of Avalon is usually associated with present day Glastonburg.
It is also said to be the place where the body of King Arthur is buried. He was supposedly brought there via boat by his half sister, Morgan Le Fay. According to some legends Arthur merely sleeps there to awaken a some future time.
According to one theory the word is an argilcation of the Brythonic “Annuryn” the realm of fairies or netherworld but this would be a major corruption. Geoffrey of Manmouth interpreted the name as “isle of apples”. This is a more probable, since apple is still in Breton and Cornish, and Afal in Welsh.

History of Camillion

It all started in 1998 when the scouts of 18 Georgetown (North) were preparing for the Jamboree On The Air.
They had gone bamboo chopping at Balik Pulau. While chopping bamboo they chanced upon an aganid lizard. How closely this resembled a chameleon with its bright green color. Taking it as a sign from above, they decided to name one of the JOTA patrols Chameleon Patrol.
On the day of JOTA, they were asked to register for the competitions, one of the scouts, Neo Chee Seng, misspelt the name and wrote on the entry from CAMILLION instead of CHAMELEON.
This patrol then went on to win some prizes at JOTA, thus CAMILLION PATROL was born. The name remained but the patrol mascot has always been a lizard-the humble CHAMELEON.
Camillion patrol has since went on to win prizes at every competition that it has entered.
