Programme Planning Guide (Archived #0301)
Welcome to the first of its kind constant updating feature on
18th GT(N) Online. In this Programme & Camp Planning feature and
resources, updates are always added through a simple submission from
you to us. This Programme Planning Guide provide Scouters with ideas
on what to do during troop meetings and while organizing a camp.
When you are planning a programme for a weekly meeting the first
thing to take into account is the age of the young people. The
younger the section, the more that needs to be planned. Venture
scouts and sometimes the PLC in scouts should be able to choose some
of the activities or games for a programme on the evening if
necessary. Despite this, even with scouts and venture scouts, there
should be a basic programme for each meeting involving some games
and some scouting activities.
When planning an activity as part of a programme there are several
things to take into account:
What? - what is the activity?
When? - is it at an evening meeting or at the weekend? - what
time during a meeting (beginning/middle/end)?
Who? - who will be running the activity (leaders/venture
scouts/patrol leaders)?
Where? - where will the activity take place?
Why? - what is the aim of the activity?
How? - fine details including budgeting
This is a simple list of ideas of activities to do at weekly
meeting or at the weekend. The scout group sections that the
activity is suitable for are also shown. To add an idea fill in the
short form at the bottom of the page.
