SCENES
SCOUT CENTRES OF EXCELLENCE FOR NATURE AND ENVIRONMENT
SCENES (Scout Centres of Excellence for Nature and Environment)
is a project of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM)
aimed at establishing a network of locations throughout the world to
strengthen the three fundamental roles of Nature and Environment in
Scouting:
- Education through nature and the environment;
- Learning about nature and the environment;
- Action for nature and the environment.
SCENES are places where individual Scouts, Scout units and adult
Scout leaders from different parts of the world can discover the
rich opportunities offered by nature and the environment. Our
intention is to make Scouting more educational, more fun, more
attractive and more relevant to young people, Scouts and non-Scouts,
today. Operated and managed according to the highest environmental
standards, SCENES serve as demonstration sites, providing
"hands-on" environmental education opportunities for
Scouts.
THE SCENES CHARTER
It is time for young people to play a more active role in
creating tomorrow’s world. As a SCENES Centre, open to all without
distinction, we encourage:
- the nurturing of the natural environment, by caring for
soil, air, water, plants and animals given as precious gifts
from the Creator;
- the promotion of quality of life for all human beings by a
wise use of natural resources
- the education of young people, by providing useful
opportunities to learn and to take an active part in activities
that touch the earth and our culture;
- the communication of good ideas, by sharing our best with
others and by hearing what others have done in the worldwide
SCENES network, and in organisations outside Scouting.
SCENES CENTRES AROUND THE WORLD

been designated by their National Scout Associations, using criteria
