20th World Scout
Jamboree - Thailand
Jamboree is a big gathering for the scout movement. The World Scout
Jamboree is held every four years to gather scouts from all
over the world to participate in this great event. During the
Jamboree, scouts will be able to value the friendship between each
other, learn and see the different cultures from around the world,
participate in the activities with other fellow scouts, share and
gain experience, and much more.....
The World Organization of the Scout Movement announces that the
20th World Scout Jamboree will be held, as decided by the
34th World Scout Conference held in Oslo, Norway in 1996,
from 28 December 2002 to 8 January 2003 at Sattahip, Chonburi
Province in Thailand and will be hosted by the National Scout
Organization of Thailand. The Royal Thai Government is pleased to
support this world youth event and extends its warm welcome to
Scouts from all over the world.
As
host of the 20th World Scout Jamboree, the National Scout
Organization of Thailand is pleased to invite all National Scout
Organizations which are members of the World Organization of the
Scout Movement (WOSM) to take part in this World Scout Event of the
new millennium.
The theme of the 20th World Scout
Jamboree 2003 is "Share Our World, Share Our
Cultures". This is a unique opportunity for young people from
all around the world to take part in this world event in Scouting
spirit of sharing, living and learning our cultural diversity. The
Cross Roads of Culture, one of the 8 modules in this Jamboree, will
be a meeting point for youth of the new millennium.
Despite cultural differences, the World Scout Jamboree, which lasts
11 days, will attempt to unite all scouts into one spirit by letting
them learn how to live together, and by offering various activities
that help heighten their physical, psychological, and intellectual
development.
There will also be eight major
available for them to choose from according to their interest. In
addition, they will participate in the Opening, Closing and
Inter-Religious ceremonies, and New Year celebrations.
The design of the Jamboree
site-having Chao Phraya Avenue linking all scouts' villages
together, also reflects the theme. The site layout will ensure that
the scouts will enjoy their time with their fellow scouts during
their stay.
The 20th World Scout Jamboree will serve as a
platform for learning and sharing diverse cultures that all scouts
should experience.
The 20th World Scout Jamboree Emblem
shows a typical Thai roof with the World Scout Emblem at the centre.
The roof shape represents Thailand, the host country for this major
world youth event. The A-shaped gables in the roof represent
Thailand's development of traditions and cultures and the sharing of
these traditions from generation to generation.
The Jamboree will enable Scouts from around the world to live in
peace and harmony under the one roof and under the one spirit, the
scouting spirit.
 The
Jamboree Emblems
Around 30,000 Scouts, Boys and Girls are expected to participate in
this event of the 3rd millennium. The age requirement for
participants is 14 to 17 years of age. That is, those born between
29 December 1985 and 28 December 1988.
The scouts will be split up into troops of 40 people. Each troop
will have 4 leaders and 36 scouts, broken down into 4 patrols. Each
contingent must submit 1 adult leader for every 9 scouts.
Contingents who do not send enough youth members to make up a full
patrol may combine with another country, but then each contingent
must submit an adult leader.

The
International Service Team (IST) will be the general staff for the
Jamboree. IST members will preferably be aged between 18 and 28, and
must be willing to undertake a service assigned by the Office of the
Jamboree.
The 20th World Scout Jamboree 2003 will be held in
Sattahip, Chonburi Province, about 180kms south east of Bangkok. The
camp site is located on a beautiful beach on the Gulf of Thailand.
The area covers 1,200 hectares of land and consists of flat plains,
foothills and a white sandy beach, sloping down towards a crystal
blue sea.
